Winter at Old Sturbridge Village

Winter is a magical time to visit the Village, when fresh snow blankets the Common and the Countryside. Bring your skates or try out one of our reproduction sleds, even ride on a horse-drawn sleigh on snowy weekends. Then warm up with cozy indoor offerings.

Christmas by Candlelight  $

Garden Thyme

Garden Thyme is a monthly program open to all OSV Members. Held the third Saturday of each month at 10 a.m., this program looks at a variety of topics for the experienced and novice gardener.

Old Sturbridge Village is open on this winter holiday.  December school vacation week activities continue through January 2.

Selected Saturday evenings from November through March, 5 to 9 p.m.
$85 per person; $75 for OSV Members
Pre-registration is required
 
Enjoy a unique opportunity to prepare and eat a meal the way early New Englanders did. The Parsonage is the setting for this Saturday-night program, where costumed interpreters oversee the preparations, but the guests do the chopping, mixing, and stirring.   
 
MLK Day
January 17, 2011
 

The Village is open on this Monday holiday for visitors to experience everyday life in an early New England town in winter, and to pay tribute to the 20th-century civiil rights leader by presenting characterizations of 19th-century individuals with New England ties who played significant roles in the 19th-century movement to abolish slavery, including Abigail Kelley.

 
Fire & Ice Day
January 29, 2011
 

It's a day to embrace the joys of an old-fashioned winter -- indoors and out. Join us today at the Village's Mill Pond to learn about ice harvesting in early New England. Then stop by the Bullard Tavern for some magical moments by the fire.

EXHIBIT: The Labour of My Youthful Hands

A new needlework exhibit in the Firearms & Textiles building focusing on young ladies' needlework and ornamental arts from the OSV collection. 

 
EXHIBIT: Farm, Families and Change
May 23, 2009 - December 31, 2015
 

The museum's newest permanent exhibit, Farm, Families and Change, includes new displays in three of the Village's restored barns.  The exhibit addresses questions that resonate today:  "Where does our food come from?" and "Why does the New England landscape look the way it does?"
